My wife Betty was 28 when she died in 1971. Sometime later I had a very vivid dream about her which I describe in this song.

White velvet

She was just a silhouette, illusion in the mist and yet
When I reached out and touched her face, she felt so soft and pure
Felt so soft and pure; just like white velvet

I touched her once, then she was gone
The memory of that touch lives on
Like fingers tingling in my brain, it's driving me insane
Driving me insane, it is white velvet

Seasons come and seasons go; time illusion's space I know
Just what is truth, I do not know, yeah, what is truth, I do not know
She's in a place somewhere of mystic time and scented air - white velvet
Reach out and I try to grasp the meaning of a hope that's past
To understand and then let go; I really gotta' know
Really gotta' know if she was real

Just one more time, one moment more
Show me she was real; let me feel velvet on silk
Satin on lace, touch her face
Just one more time, one moment more
Let me see her smile; let me know if it was true
Let me say I love you

Smoke another cigarette to remember, then forget
I touched her once, then she was gone; the feelings linger on
Velvet feelings tender to the touch - white velvet

Just one more time, one moment more
Show me she was real; let me feel velvet on silk
Satin on lace, touch her face
Just one more time, one moment more
Let me see her smile; let me know if it was true
Let me say I love you

Smoke another cigarette to remember, then forget
I touched her once, then she was gone; the feelings linger on
Velvet feelings tender to the touch - white velvet
